Safe School Teen Ambassadors

DOES YOUR CAMPUS OR DISTRICT INCLUDE STUDENTS IN SCHOOL SAFETY INITIATIVES?

The Texas School Safety Center is hosting focus groups during the spring of 2024 to learn how middle and high school campuses and districts are purposefully engaging their student body in creating happier and safer learning environments.

Efforts engaging students in school safety may include, but are not limited to, mental health and wellness, violence prevention, campus safety, and substance use prevention.

Student groups can consist of, but are not limited to, SAVE Promise Club, CERT Club, PALS Program, Campus Crimestoppers, Teen Court, SADD Club, Peer Counselors Program, Student Committee's, Principal's Advisors, or School Ambassadors.

The focus group will occur through Zoom for 1 hour and will not be recorded. Feedback shared during the meeting will remain anonymous and will be combined with feedback from other focus groups to help develop program activities and resources.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Student Focus Group

The Center invites existing student groups who are actively working on school safety initiatives to share how they help create a positive school climate, thoughts on youth-adult partnerships, and different types of resources they may find helpful for their efforts.

If a group is interested in participating, students must submit a signed parent consent form to txssc_yi@txstate.edu. The lead adult sponsor must complete an interest form submission. Staff will review the submission and follow up with the lead sponsor to schedule a day and time that works best for the student group.

School Administrators Focus Group

The Center invites administrators who are actively including students in conversations or activities about campus safety, bullying prevention, and preventing other forms of violence as well as youth substance use prevention.

The Center is interested in learning about specific opportunities school administrators are providing students to be a part of creating a positive and safe school as well as successes and challenges of engaging students in school safety issues.

If you are interested in sharing what your campus or district is doing, please contact staff via email at Txssc_yi@txstate.edu.
