The Community & Youth Initiatives tobacco program provides through training and technical assistance, we strive to increase the capacity of Texas communities and schools to effectively create positive change at the local level in reducing the burden of tobacco use and secondhand smoke. Texas Teen Tobacco Summit & Hosted by the Center for Safe Communities and Schools and the Texas Department of State Health Services, will be a premier assembly of tobacco-control professionals, researchers, healthcare providers, community outreach specialists, law enforcement officers, counselors, teachers and youth dedicated to protecting Texas youth from the dangers of tobacco use and helping those who smoke to quit. Texas Regional Teen Tobacco Summits CSCS will conduct 3 Regional Teen Tobacco Summits in the following areas: Panhandle/Amarillo area, West Texas/ Midland area, and Lower Rio Grande Valley/Harlingen area. We will strive to train and equip community and school-based organizations to invest in youth, where young people and adult allies come together to create positive social change. Teen Ambassadors The goal of the Teen Ambassador Initiative is to build a statewide network of well trained, educated, and committed youth advocates in an effort to ensure a prominent youth voice in systems and policies that effect them; especially regarding tobacco and secondhand smoke. |

| Tobacco Law Enforcement | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
CSCS provides services to increase compliance with the Texas Tobacco law and reduce initiation of youth tobacco use in accordance with the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Tobacco Prevention Initiative. Click here to learn more about the Tobacco Law Enforcement program
Synar Since 1998, CSCS has been contractually responsible for implementation of the annual statewide Synar Survey. This federally mandated scientific survey requires the recruitment, training, and supervision of local law enforcement agencies or independent law enforcement contractors in selected counties around the state.
DSHS Law Enforcement Contractors CSCS contracts with local law enforcement agencies to provide many different tobacco-related services. Each agency is expected to fulfill a variety of contract requirements. CYI currently provides training and technical assistance for the contracted law enforcement agencies in the southeast Texas area. |
